AMRT Fundraising Event - Saturday 2nd September, 2023

This year’s fundraising event will be held on Saturday 2nd September 2023 on the Glen Tanar Estate near Aboyne.

Registration for the event will open 2nd April 2023 and we hope to see as many AMRT supporters as possible on the day enjoying all that Glen Tanar has to offer.

Parking will open from 0900hrs, and we are offering several preregistered activities within the grounds of the estate from our Basecamp, with food and drinks available from our catering partners.

This year’s event includes:
• The traditional “Long” Walk: Approx. 25km incorporating existing Glen Tanar paths
and Trails. The route leaves the main Glen Tanar trail heading south below Clachan
Yell, south at black craig and loops round to the north below Gathering Cairn.
Thereafter it drops down Cock Cairn to the main path and back down the Glen. This
activity has an open start time, but we would ask that “late starters” leave enough
time to confidently complete the route by 18:00.
• A “Short” Walk: (5-8km) attractive to younger families and less confident walkers
and incorporating existing Glen Tanar Trails. (Figure 8 linking Old Pines and Fairy
Lochan paths). Again, this has an open start time, but we would ask that “late
starters” leave enough time to confidently complete their chosen route by 18:00.
• A Hill Run: A competitive hill run for experienced fell runners or adventurous road
runners. Terrain will be steep in sections and will combine trail, track, and open
ground. Approx 10Km. 11:00am start for all categories.
• Glen Tanar Ranger Led activity: Two 1.5 hrs activities (10:00hrs and 14:00hrs).
Relatively short distance from the basecamp, suitable for all. Educational and
focussed on the ecology of the flora and fauna of the estate and its management.
