Aberdeen Mountain Rescue Team Visit Bennachie

Aberdeen Mountain Rescue Team visit Bennachie!

On Saturday 28 May from 10.30 – 2.00pm at the Bennachie Visitor Centre, near to Chapel of Garioch several members of Aberdeen Mountain Rescue Team will be camped out at the Bennachie Centre car park!

This is a great opportunity for anyone interested to meet members of this valuable team.  Aberdeen Mountain Rescue Team  will be bringing their land rover and specialist equipment for anyone interested to look at plus they will  be available to talk to anyone interested in their work, becoming a volunteer,  map reading issues, or any other matters. The aim of their visit to Bennachie  is to help people understand the issues in walking in the Aberdeenshire hills and mountains and how to do this activity more safely.

Scott Steven Team Leader from Aberdeen Mountain Rescue Team said “ We are very pleased to visit Bennachie without being called out on a rescue, as Bennachie figures very frequently in our annual statistics”. Scott stated that already this year the team has been called to Bennachie many times  to deal with several accidents including:  broken ankles, slipping on ice and disorientation.  We are often called out alongside Police Scotland and Braemar Mountain Rescue Team to assist folks in the Bennachie area and in Aberdeenshire."

Jackie Cumberbirch from Bailies of Bennachie said “  The Bailies of Bennachie, also a Scottish charity, are concerned with visitors’  safety on Bennachie. We are aware of the great work that Aberdeen Mountain Rescue team does every year and this voluntary team  have to raise nearly £50,000 each year to cover equipment costs, access to helicopters etc.  The Bailies will be giving the team a small donation of £500 towards their work in recognition of the work they do so ably on Bennachie.”

This informal event is also being supported by Aberdeenshire Council Ranger Service , Forestry Commission Scotland and The Bennachie Centre Trust.  If you would like more information please contact The Bennachie Visitor Centre tel 01467 681470
